Dr. Tuan Ahn Nguyen

Vice President of Vietnam Energy Association (VEA) & Vietnam Market Expert

Dr. Tuan A. Nguyen is currently a Visiting lecturer at Electric Power University (EPU, Hanoi); and Vice President of Vietnam Energy Association (VEA); Standing member of Scientific Council for Vietnam Energy Journal.

He has more than 35 years of work experience in the energy sector in developing and developed countries in South-East Asia and Europe. He is particularly involved in the topics of Renewable Energy planning and technical studies (Assessment, Grid studies, Feasibility and technical designs); Regulatory and policies issues; and Power system and market reforms.

From March 2022 to March 2025, he worked as Energy Advisor for Stantec company for one project “EU-Vietnam Sustainable Energy Transition EVSET. From November 2007 to November 2021 (when he retired), he worked as Director of the Renewable Energy Center of the Institute of Energy in Viet Nam, responsible for the overall management of the center and participating in the elaboration of energy-related legislation and in the implementation of numerous projects for various investors and donors, including MOIT, Private sector.

Throughout his long career, he participated in many TA projects in various positions such as energy planner, policy expert, economic and financial analyst, electrical engineer and Renewable Energy expert in Viet Nam and other Asian states. He also acted as Team Leader for numerous projects, coordinating and managing teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality outputs.

He has an excellent knowledge and understanding of the energy sector in Viet Nam, its challenges and opportunities, and the main actors in the sector, as he has worked in the country on this topic since 1984. This enabled him to develop a wide network of relationships with key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, and to deal at senior level with many institutions, including government.

Dr. Nguyen has a solid educational background comprising a PhD in Applied Economics with a specialisation in energy-environment policy, two master’s degrees respectively in Energy-Environmental Economics and Energy Planning and Policy, and a Bachelor in Energy System Modelisation and Planning.
